Lightscapes Walden 7

Lightscapes draws from the nocturnal to explore the Walden 7 building in Barcelona. At night, this architectural icon stops standing out for its exterior volume and begins to reveal, through indirect lighting, the empty spaces that define its geometry. Like a flâneur in the dead of night, the project invites viewers to journey th passages, and staircases that shape the Walden universe.

This building, designed by Ricardo Bofill’s Taller de Arquitectura in 1987, is notable for its complex geometry and extensive network of elevated corridors and walkways that connect the residences, creating a framework of public routes.

However, these thresholds, corridors, and public balconies become extensions of each home, adopting a much more intimate character. They are ambiguous spaces, where one feels either like an intruder in another’s privacy or invited in. This semi-public space of coexistence unveils a new landscape at night, highlighting the original dream be to create opportunities for encounters and to live freely in a community.
